|Telecom Review Summit Draws World Telecom Leaders|
As you know Telecom Review is a global marketing brand that covers 80% of the world. As such we are always looking for ways to bring industry leaders together to exchange ideas and provide new insights into the industry.
The recent Telecom Review Leaders Summit was a great forum to accomplish those goals.
Leaders from carriers around the globe recently gathered in Dubai for the Telecom Review “C” Level Networking Summit. It was a great opportunity for these leaders of our industry to visit with old friends and make new friends in this industry. The special guest of honor was Nicolas Sehnaoui the Lebanese Minister of Telecommunications and he was well received by the attendees at the gathering.
The meeting started off with a full day’s agenda and the attendees listened to thought provoking presentations for many leaders. These included everything from the data explosion on broadband networks to spectrum issues in the expansion of mobile networks. The CEO panel had a great feature topic on growing revenue from the data tsunami. The evening continued with the “Friends of Telecom Gala Dinner”. The guests had a very nice meal together and then listened as the Telecom Awards for Excellence were presented. This year’s Merit Leader Award winners included the following industry leaders:
Ross Cormack has been CEO of Nawras since 2004 and has more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, having led four different telecommunications companies, served on the Board of Directors of six companies and shareholder-managed 16 companies across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. His other recent experience has included serving as Executive Director Wireless for Qtel, CEO and founder of Singapore-based Virgin Mobile Asia and Managing Director of Hong Kong CSL.
Osman Sultan was named as the Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (du) in January 2006. His vision of creating a telecommunications company that would transform the UAE’s industry monopoly, while adhering to its values and delivering on its promise, has since manifested itself to form one of the region’s most vibrant success stories.
Under the leadership of Osman Sultan, du has become one of the fastest growing telecom companies in the UAE with large growth in net profit growing year to year across multiple product and service categories.
Marwan Hayek took the helm of Alfa, the first Lebanese mobile operator managed by Orascom Telecom, as its Chairman and CEO, at the beginning of 2010. He is an experienced telecoms executive with close to 16 years of field and operations experience. Before taking the helm at Alfa in 2010, he worked at France Telecom in Lebanon, and was part of the initial team that built the first GSM network in the country. He has been with Orascom Telecom Group, which manages Alfa, since 1999 and has held various positions.
In January 2009, Nagi joined UAE’s Etisalat Group as Chief Executive Officer of Atlantique Telecom, managing the Etisalat footprint in French speaking Africa. Atlantique has flourished ever since. Mr. Abboud served as Chief Executive Officer of Libertis, a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom Holding Sae. He started his career working with Spar Aerospace Limited in Canada on the international space station project.
Khaled Al Kaf, CEO Mobily (Etisalat Group)
Khalid Omar Al Kaf was appointed chief executive officer and managing director of Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) in July 2005, after spending a little over 12 months as startup project manager, when the company was awarded the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s second GSM license and first Saudi 3G mobile license for SAR 12.96 billion.
Al Kaf, an Emeriti national, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from George Washington University, Washington D.C., 1986. He returned to his home country and was hired by Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), the Gulf Cooperation Council states’ leading telecommunications operator. He has worked closely with French telecommunication giant, Alcatel, within the software development field and later with Japanese communication infrastructure leader Fujitsu.
Mr. Ahmad Al Hanandeh came to Zain Jordan with an impressive professional track record, having joined as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from the successful Zain Sudan mobile operation in March 2011.
Prior to that, he spent four years as the General Manager of Posta Plus, the Gulf-based company specializing in world-class delivery, courier and postal services across the Middle East.
Mario Bouchard has led an inspiring career path in the wireless industry. He co-founded iBwave in 2003, a company globally serving over 400 leading telecommunication firms, in over 80 countries worldwide, with innovative in-building solutions. He took his 15 years of experience working for TELUS Mobility and Bell Canada, two leading Canadian wireless operators, to create a unique suite of products that would address the needs of the in-building wireless market, soon becoming the standard for the entire in-building ecosystem.
The gathering concluded with a special recognition award for H.E. Nicolas Sehnaoui the Lebanese Minister of Telecommunications.
